Review : Marvel Zombies #1

Posted in Comics, Marvel, Review Archieve with tags , on June 16, 2008 by Voltburn

I started reading this because I thought it could be fun but unfortunely the first issue of Marvel Zombies was a disappointment with a pretty boring start and weak humorous comments and jokes.

The first page shows us a introduction what caused them to turn into zombies which is in my opinion very vague and not so interesting, anyhow like the intro tells us is Magneto the only survivor left after The Fantastic Four went send into an alternate dimension where they are stuck for all freakin’ eternity because Magneto destroyed the Warp Machine to prevent the zombie Flash in the sky force, figuring out he hasn’t much longer to live as well.

So eventually the Marvies meet up with Magneto , Magneto tries to flee but the zombie squad of hunger chases him.
With Zombie Colonel America (who is for some reason Colonel in the zombie universe ) on his tail he grabs his shield and magusfies it through the head of Captain America who crashes onto the ground where he finds Spider-man with a broken leg.

With America on the ground he takes the change to flee and stops some blocks further, however Hawkeye Zombie awaits him there and shoots Magneto , but Magneto is one bit faster and decapitates Hawkeye with America’s shield, Just like that.

Magneto has the upperhand this time , until he was caught off-guard by Zombie Wasp and bites a chunk out of his neck, seeing that Wasp is having dinner the other zombies start to whine the would like to have a piece as well and that she should save something for the rest of the zombie crew.

Zombie Thor and Hulk don’t waste time and both grab magneto, with the Hulk grabbing his leg and rips it off like it’s made out of playdough.
And because Zombies apparently are whiny bitches , Giant Zombie Antman whines about that the hulk has his whole leg and suggest for a share with Hulkazombie only replying with “okay” , which is weird because The Hulk never shares food.

Agreed on the share they all feast on Magneto’s corpse if it’s an all you can eat sparerib restaurant.

When done feasting upon the flesh of the fallen they all sit down to talk about how their zombie stomachs aren’t working like it’s suppose , and ofcourse zombies are bitchy and whiny creatures Zombie Spidey turns all emo because just now he asks himself why he ate his aunt and his wife and asks god to die. * sigh * Zombies.

They continue their zombie-wise chatting about a bone sticking out of Bruce’s stomach because he changed back to Bruce after eating , causing also his stomach to schrink and not creating enough room for the bones of foodyfied Magneto.

However they got interubted because Zombie Luke Cage sees something in the sky , which is no other than… * drum roll*

Yep, Silver Surfer and with the show-up with the silver fellow ends this issue.

My slice of cheese

Like I mentioned above I started reading the zombie series because I thought zombies could be fun, if used correctly and in a good way. However the first issue wasn’t that interesting story or humor wise because it didn’t feel like an actual marvel comic , instead it felt like a bad fanfic with a weak attempt of humorous jokes, another thing this issueis lacking.

However i’m not judging this series yet since this was only the first issue and it would be unfair to judge it only by it’s pilot , so yeah. Stay tuned for the next review.

Review: Gemini #1

Secret Agent maaaaan ~

Gemini is a new comic published by Image Comics , the story resolves around Gemini a average guy with an avarage office job , until he gets a call and activates his super-self.

it begins with Gemini having a fight with some big bad super villains on rooftops taunting one eachother , after some while gets very pissed and charges at Gemini and because of bad guy’s age of ragings he forgets he’s still on rooftops and runs from the rooftop and crashes down while Gemini easily dodges his charge.

And this is when we meet the big brain behind the Gemini Project, a bunch of people all numbered instead of their names too keep the project super secret.
These people keep an eye on Gemini by watching everything he sees on a huge ass High Definition Screen, besides guiding Gemini they also serve as a crisis center , giving Gemini a call to arms when bad guys appear.

We also get to know the new employee, it’s her first day working for Gemini , she gets lectured right away because she arrived too late , a wonder she found it at all  being it a secret stake-out and all.

Just right after she arrives she was just in time to start her first job task, guiding Gemini.
She equips the headset and calls Gemini, still a bit nervous and insecure of what to say.

Gemini affirms and deactivates his super hero outfit and heads back to his house while she tells him that all events happened this day will be forgotten the next day, because that’s what the Gemini Project is about, a secret superhero , so secret Gemini not even knows!

The next morning starts like any other day , going to his office job where he gets buggered by his cubical neighbor and colleague , Gemini not in the mood for jolly fun tells him to knock it off and continues with his work.

Somewhat later he and his colleague go out for a drink and Gemini gets told he isn’t the fun guy he used to be , not knowing what to do with it they let it at at and continue drinking and discussing other things.

However they get interrupted by a call to arms and Gemini says his colleague goodbye and runs off.
A known super villain team is causing havoc and currently already fighting the Gemini Project other superheroes members, they battle goes on for a while but Gemini and team manages to defeat he bad guys.

Deadweight a superhero girl with the powers to make everything 10 times as heavy engages a little conversation with Gemini and asks him out to have a drink someday, Gemini not really in the mood and not himself tells her a maybe and they separate.

He gets called to call it a day and head home but meanwhile he hears a woman scream in a nearby apartment building and dashes off, the crew clearly telling him it’s not authorized to act on random situations they try to convince him to not act but in feign he does, bashing through the walls and encounters a man threatening the lady to hit her.
Gemini grabs the man by his collar and tells him off  and yells not to hurt him, however Gemini punches him across the room causing the lady to grab a shotgun and shoots Gemini’s head to smithereens.

And that’s where the first issue ends , in an plot twisting cliffhanger.

My Cut of Cheese

I really liked the first issue and the secret-secret parody  take on the superhero thing and although the cover really doesn’t attracts it to read it the interior art is original and different than the other comics you’re used to. So if you’re into different art styles , Superhero secret identity’s with a parody twist and a good action and humor this is definitely the comic you’ve been waiting for!

I have to confess and some people already know it , I am crazed about robots, awesome and funny looking robots , robots and a good sense of humor and I’ve been looking for Atomic Robo for a very long time and because I live outside the US it was a pain in the arse to find comics like these , but Thank goodness I finally  found Atomic Robo . All 6 Freaking Issues. I am a happy man now.
